Familiar places often fade into the background of everyday life. We recognise them quickly and stop noticing them.
A simple gesture - light, reflection, framing, sound, or presence - can interrupt that habit and make a place perceptible again.
This 8-day summer school took place in and around the Himalayan village of Satoli. Participants worked with abandoned buildings, underused structures, overlooked corners and occasionally parts of the surrounding landscape.
These places were not repaired, redesigned, or repurposed. Instead, participants introduced small, deliberate creative acts that restored attention to them for a limited time.
Participants learnt how small, intentional gestures can interrupt routine perception and make overlooked places newly perceptible.
When attention changes, the cultural condition of a place changes with it - even if only briefly.With the participation of the students from CEPT university and the residents of Peora Village, Uttarakhand.
